Compatibility and live-test limitations
- Removed
deeplinks get and deeplinks algo-urls from CLI/MCP discovery: Bing marks these operations obsolete and credentialed calls return ErrorCode: 16 (Deprecated). This is a breaking removal, not a successful live test of those retired endpoints.
- Removed
sites moves from the supported CLI/MCP surface by operator approval: the documented GetSiteMoves route consistently returned HTTP 404 with valid owned-site credentials. This is a disclosed capability limitation, not evidence of permanent Microsoft retirement and not a passing test of that endpoint.
testdata/synthetic-gsc-queries.csv is fabricated test input, not a Google Search Console export. The live gap test combines that local parser fixture with actual Bing API responses; it does not validate real Google account coverage.- Live fixture discovery accepts
BING_WEBMASTER_TEST_SITE, BING_WEBMASTER_TEST_QUERY, BING_WEBMASTER_TEST_FEED, and BING_WEBMASTER_TEST_GSC. These affect test arguments only, not normal command defaults. Use an owned site, a real sitemap, and an absolute CSV path. Mutation tests stay dry-run only.

Authentication
Authentication uses a single Bing Webmaster API key passed as the apikey query parameter. The key is per-user (it covers every site you've verified), not per-site. Get it at bing.com/webmasters → Settings → API Access → Generate API Key, then set it as the BING_WEBMASTER_API_KEY environment variable. Run doctor to confirm the key is valid and the API is reachable.
Credentialed live-test fixtures
Set BING_WEBMASTER_TEST_SITE to a site verified for your API key before running Printing Press live dogfood. This optional environment variable supplies pp:happy-args metadata for drift and crawl children-info, replacing documentation-only example URLs during test discovery. It does not change normal CLI flag defaults or authorize writes. Keep the value out of public proof output when it identifies a private account.

Troubleshooting
Authentication errors (exit code 4)

Not found errors (exit code 3)
- Check the resource ID is correct
- Run the
list command to see available items
API-specific
- doctor reports InvalidApiKey — Regenerate the key at bing.com/webmasters → Settings → API Access and re-export BING_WEBMASTER_API_KEY; the key is per-user and only one is active at a time.
- Query stats come back empty — This is expected when a site is below Bing's data threshold — it is valid, not an error. Verify with a higher-traffic site or wait for more data.
- URL submission returns HTTP 403 — Usually upstream WAF/Bingbot blocking rather than the API. Confirm Bingbot is allowed in robots.txt and not blocked by your CDN/WAF.
- Submission rejected for quota — Run
quota to see remaining daily/monthly allowance; new sites get far less than the 10,000/day headline. Quota resets at midnight GMT.
